Custom wood carving of a Poppy for a Shrine to the Sacred Heart of Jesus at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Lancaster, Ohio.
The red Poppy is symbolic of the Precious Blood. The Gregorian chant at the beginning is the Salvete Christi vulnera, a hymn for the Feast of the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ on July 1. The first verse can be translated thus: "Hail, ye Wounds of Christ, pledges of boundless love, whence unfailing streams of crimson Blood flow forth." Authorship is uncertain and it seems to have been composed in the 17th Century.
